Joining
FIRST. It’s fun for the mentors, the parents, and especially the students! At the same time, it is one of the most challenging school-sponsored activities you can join. Once you join, you realize FIRST is more than just the robots. FIRST are the people and the knowledge. Students meet people from their own school, their community, their country, and from across the world.
Also, the impact FIRST has on your life is long-lasting. Not only do colleges value students who competed with FIRST, but it has a huge impact on careers in science, math, and technology. The knowledge you gain through FIRST gives you a head start in a life-long journey. This program is designed to give students a hands-on, real-world approach to STEM.
As RaileRobotics has many internal gears like a business, many talents and interests are needed to let the group gain success. Although students who have some experience and interest in science and technology are at a slight advantage, that background isn’t necessary to have a good time.
If you are interested in machining, photography, engineering, public relations, business management, financial management, website design and management, computer programming and many more, then joining RaileRobotics might be for you!

Mentoring
Throughout the year, all of the students are hard at work. We maintain a website, present to people in the community and businesses and build a robot… Most of the students do not come into the program with the knowledge required to do all of these things. As a result, students refer to tutorials (especially programming and other computer-based jobs) and more experienced team members. But when four years of experience just isn’t enough, we talk to our mentors. As engineers, programmers, and former Robotics students, mentors spent a lot of time and energy trying to guide us through the process without giving us the answers or doing the work for us. They aren’t the only ones who can help, though: even parents act as mentors from time to time. The entire team appreciates any time you volunteer! As a mentor, you will be helping today’s youth overcome the challenges of this year’s game as well as teaching them how to innovate to conquer difficulties.
